I have access to a lot of nice tools to clear the Miata's valve covers off. I just need to know which brands provide the best wrinkle finish or any advice painting them. Spray I heard is bad, but are there any brush paints? Thanks!
Here's some cars in returns.

I use VHT Wrinkle on my Harley. Seems to work good. Better idea would to get them powder coated.

Best solution? Swap for a Protege valve cover

Does the Protege have VVT? Mine's an '02.

Hmm that complicates things, I'm honestly not sure if there was ever a VVT 1.8 BP in anything other than the Miata

Kinda doing this on the cheap. Money's going toward a clean fuel tank at the moment. But I'll keep VHT in mind!

I don't think it does, sadly.
Car for you anyway.

X2 on vht black crinkle spray. I did the valve cover of my toyota 22r when I swapped in a new motor a few years ago. Turned out mint.
Best thing I can suggest is clean clean clean to remove all oil and grease. Heavy duty decreased is your freind, along with brake clean. Then, sand with scotchbrite pads to Gove it a good tooth. Results are going to a direct result of the the prep work you do.
Oh, and don't freak out after you spray it and its glossy as hell. The krinkle takes to e and the more coats you put on,the more krinkle. I used 4 for mine
